Insomnia often goes unmentioned
November 4, 2026

People with cancer may not bring up poor sleep, or may wait until it badly affects daily life. Doctors focused on the cancer may not think to ask.
A 2024 paper in Cancer Medicine by Saeki and colleagues points to a quiet gap in cancer care. Insomnia often goes unreported. Patients may not mention trouble sleeping at all. Or they may hold back until it badly affects daily life. The paper also notes that doctors who are focused on treating the cancer may forget to ask about related problems like insomnia. So poor sleep can go unnoticed on both sides of the conversation. If sleep is a struggle for you, it is worth raising. Talk to your care team.
